No Place: Adopted By Brian Fanfic review
Uh oh I went down the rabbit hole and started reading fan fiction. I give these writer credit for trying to write imaginary scenarios for real celebrities . However, they sometimes only cater to their own whims and it goes off the rails completely. ( Like one Nick story that portray as lascivious bumbling fool which I will get to later They were never meant to be deep but some are more realistic that other . So I will be giving in character or out character verdict and my own thoughts, Stories like this are part of the fanfic subgenre adopted by in which writers imagine fictional adoption scenarios for their favorite celebrities
Verdict: In Character but underdeveloped.
I can see Brian doing this maybe taking in a troubled family member. He did reference going to adoption meeting( most likely joking) in a social media post However without any conflict it will sputter. I can see why the author has not updated this since May 4 2020 k(as of writing) The author was adamant about excluding Leighanne and Baylee. Shes portray Brian as a lonely man looking for company. Instead of getting a girlfriend he decides to adopt because he is good with kids. After consulting with Kevin and the rest of the group and going through the necessary step he gets 3 year old Hyacinth and at the end we see his first interactions with her
By not including family in any form he author misses out on a potential source of conflict. I am guessing it really was not meant to be detailed either because of lack of knowledge of the subject matter or just wanting to make a Brian lovefest which the point of most fanfic . Another avenue of conflict might have been writing about the classes and how conflicted the other potential adoptees might have felt about having someone famous around. Maybe the adoption doesn't go through as planned and he has to fight for Hyacinth. One commenter on the story in Wattpad did point that she calls him daddy too soon. .Assuming that she did not know her biological parents she would become attached right away. But if the trauma is new it might have been hard. This period of adjustment again could have been a source of conflict and with other family members even more so. This would have been an opportunity to include more of Hyacinth and her backstory too .
I do like the interaction between the fictional Brian and the original character Hyacinth especially the nicknames Peaches ( a subtle reference to Georgia I guess) I also like the fact that he does go for having a kid instead the girlfriend which would have been the obvious route. It is totally what I would imagine to it to be given his love for kids in genre However this if all the writer focuses on, I don't see much for this. Of course as I write this, the story is ongoing status, so we will see where the author goes with and I will update this post accordingly.
