Critics of those who critique from false teaching call them heresy hunters and judgemental. Judging in a godly way is to evaluate and discern. Matthew 7:1-5 talks about judging hypocritically. The log represents our faults that are bigger than the other person's designated by the speck. The log blinds us to own and makes it impossible to help remove the defects. In the d Jesus to remove to log( our faults), we can clear the speck out of the person's eyes. When we do, we have greater authority to help someone or to rebuke them. In Fact John 7:24, Jesus says Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.” So we are not to judge merely on surface things or externalities, either good or bad, but in truth
Pope Francis joined in this by accusing conservative Christians of stubbornly clinging to tradition. I hate to break to him, but adjusting your style should not compromise the message. Hillsongs Non-Christian Christian services are examples of relevance taken too far. With our Christian freedom comes responsibility. We are free from the yoke of the law to obedience to Christ Peter also tells us in 2 Peter 2:16. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.
Now I know this a swipe at the discernment YouTubers, especially the ones who called him out. He accused them of "disturbing communities " instead of preaching the gospel. Of course, it is hypocritical of him to say that the Catholic church elevates tradition over the Bible. He is focused more on social issues than the gospel. With the disturbing communities statement, he confuses the good conflict with bad conflict. T Contending for the true faith is not inflexible in itself. Jude felt it was so urgent he changed the topic of his letter. . So Peter also tells us in 2 Peter 2:16. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.
Jesus himself disturbed communities because he bucked the religious establishment. This brought others to him, but he also warned of division as a result of following him. Francis talks about meekness, but his reaction to the conservative Christian is anything but meek or humble. Does it even condemn priests who deny abortion supporters communion or the priest who spoke out against Joe Biden?
I take the issue of the term heresy hunter. Honestly, you don't have to look far now for heresy. It is out there and obvious to even those with minimal discernment. The whole grave soaking is an example. It is clear to anyone with biblical knowledge that this an insult to God's power. These people are trying to get from the person itself when the power displayed came from God. Instead, they should ask for the filling of the Spirit and him to help you develop characteristics that made them great This seems to be a perversion of the story of t the dead body that was resurrected when thrown into Elisha's grave in a hurry. In 2 Kings 13:20-21.
20 Elisha died and was buried. Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring. 21 Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.
The power did not come from Elisha's bones themselves but from God. Although it says the body came alive, there is no direct causal link here. The writer doesn't say that the man was resurrected, just that he was when the body entered the grave due to touching the bones. No extraordinary power ascribed to his bones. It is a temporal link because only the word when is explicitly mentioned. There are no causal words like because here.. This was a one-off miracle, not something that God tells us we can do or even commands us to do.
Watching these channels has helped sharpened my discernment and made me consider things I have not previously like the quality of the current Christian music scene. I like the Kozars, but they seem to go after this more than the subtle because they are people who will fall for it. If you are a new Christian trying to navigate these issues, I'd recommend them and Revealing Truth. Spencer Smith is a good balance for the more knowledgeable because he will address the not-so-obvious problems that would confuse me. I agree most of the time, but I use scripture to back it up when I don't.
Here is an example of Spencer Smith on Pope Francis
